Remember – War of the Son - Episode 10 Recap
You may have various emotions in only one episode, where you see hopes and smiles besides tears and disappointment.
Jin Woo has made a lot of efforts to prove his father’s innocence, but now it seems to be that all of his efforts become meaningless. The truth is still the truth; however, in a society without justice, could all people with a limited life wait until the truth is proved?
Prosecutor Choi tells Dong Ho that the trial time might be shortened than she thought, but Dong Ho states that Jin Woo will be never easily give it up because he has been prepared for 4 years. Prosecutor Choi reminds Dong Ho about which line he is standing on and she infers that Dong Ho wants Jin Woo to be the winner in this trial.
In the hospital, Jin Woo now just comes to his senses. He fainted because he did not get enough sleep when preparing for the trial. No matter how In Ah, Manager Yeon and Attorney Song advise him to take a rest, Jin Woo gets up and asks to continue the trial.
Before entering the courtroom, Jin Woo meets Dong Ho who advises him to take care of himself. Jin Woo wonders why he’s still following him. Dong Ho says that he wants Jin Woo to win the trial and prove his father’s innocence. However, Jin Woo does not believe in his words and supposes Dong Ho as a hypocrite.
Before the court, the doctor admits that he provided false testimony 4 years ago and confirms that Jae Hyuk actually has Alzheimer symptoms. Jin Woo questions him who orders he did that, but the doctor repeated that it was his own doing.
Gyu Man goes to the hospital of the witness doctor and warns the doctor to be careful about his words. The doctor gets so frightened; he kneels down and begs Gyu Man for his forgiveness. He explains Jin Woo threatened him to do that and ensures that he will reveal nothing related to Gyu Man and Il Ho Group. Cruelly as normal, Gyu Man orders him to take his nameplate, thrash it, and then crawl out like a dog if he wants not to be punished. After that, Gyu Man calls Prosecutor Choi and tells her to find a way to put Jae Hyuk into prison.
Jin Woo stands right in front of the wall that shows his whole revenge plan and thinks of all the times that Dong Ho saved his life. He considers Dong Ho’s words and wonders if Dong Ho sincerely wants to clear his father name. Manager Yeon replies that only time will give an answer.
The next day, Jin Woo visits his father and is so surprised when his father calls out his name “Jin Woo”. Jin Woo’s face turns to be radiant with smiles. More surprisingly, his father could remember a lot of their old memories, such as the first time going to a bathhouse when Jin Woo was 5 or the time when Jin Woo forgot to wash his school uniform.
The two father and son break into laughters when Jae Hyuk recounts the time they sang the song “Unconditional” in his birthday. Jin Woo is happy to see his father health status has been improved after a long time.
Prosecutor Hong tells In Ah that he knows the relationship between him and Il Ho Group is being followed up; but he tells her that all those cases were concluded, and from now on, she has to move to Changwon office. In Ah feels very resentful because of his power abuse.
After Chairman Nam talks to Prosecutor Choi over the phone, Gyu Man is informed by his father that Prosecutor Choi is handling the retrial well. Chairman Nam reminds Gyu Man to concentrate on the company business since he is the only heir who will manage Il Ho Group.
Gyu Man is in a good mood after his father’s announcement, and tells Soo Beom to take care of Detective Gwak since that might be the next target of Jin Woo. He warns Soo Beom not to repeat what happened with the doctor.
At Jin Woo’s law office, he tells his colleagues they should not stay defensive in the trial any more. Instead, they should choose attacking strategy. And the first objective is Detective Gwak – a main factor in his father’s case. Jin Woo intends to get Detective Gwak on their side. He tells Lawyer Song to keep an eye on Soo Beom as he knows that Gyu Man will interrupt and won’t let Detective Gwak become a threat to him.
Jin Woo and Attorney Song keep track of Detective Gwak when he is controlling the traffic. Then Jin Woo meets him and tells him that he will be soon a victim in Gyu Man’s game because Gyu Man will blame all of the sins on him. Detective Gwak is not happy to hear that and Jin Woo says he will give him one chance to tell the truth.
In Ah finally decides to quit her job and submits her resignation letter to Prosecutor Hong. She states that she doesn’t want to work in a place where justice is not respected and is manipulated to serve self-interests. Regardless of Prosecutor Hong ironic words, In Ah threatens him that his crimes will be bared even if she is no longer a prosecutor.
In Ah goes home and tells her parents about her resignation, since what she experiences now is totally different from her dream of becoming an upright prosecutor. Her mother is furious and asks her to beg for coming back to her work. Being not able to make her mother understand, In Ah cries and goes straight to her room. Suddenly, she receives a call from Jin Woo just before her mother warns her to leave home if not continuing her job. In Ah then goes out to look for Jin Woo.
Dong Ho asks Joo Il for more information about the car hit accident of his father and Jin Woo’s family that year. Joo Il says he does not know anything and would tell him if he find something related to it. Then Joo Il asks Dong Ho whether he makes up his mind in choosing a side to stand on. Although Joo Il expects Dong Ho to keep on working and supporting for Gyu Man as well as Il Ho Group, Dong Ho eventually expresses his wish to help Jin Woo as a way of paying Jin Woo what he owed him.
In Ah has a drink with Jin Woo and she confirms Jin Woo about her resignation, letting him know how happy she is with her decision. Jin Woo apologizes but In Ah stops him. She asks him for an extra room at his law office to stay for the night. Jin Woo prepares room for In Ah and tells her to sleep well, shouldn’t worry about anything.
In the prison, Jin Woo’s father is having a heavy stomachache. The pain is out of his endurance that he has to yell for help. But the police ignore him and give him no help.
The next morning, Manager Yeon and Attorney Song come to the office and find Jin Woo is sleeping on the sofa. Jin Woo wakes up with a smile while Manager Yeon grumbles him for not taking care of his health. Then In Ah comes out from the room, causing a funny misunderstanding to Manager Yeon and Attorney Song.
When Jin Woo and his colleagues are discussing information about the trial, In Ah tells them her wish to help Jin Woo in this trial as an attorney. She gets a warm welcome from them and they together take a nice picture.
But happiness does not last long. Jin Woo receives a call for noticing that his father is taken to the hospital in unconscious state.
In Ah is working hard to gather information about the trial when his father comes. He encourages her to go on with her choice and “be brave” because he always trusts her.
As Jin Woo predicts, Gyu Man wants to make a move on Detective Gwak. At night, Joo Il and his gangsters tie Detective Gwak to a car, then use a crane-truck to smash him. Fortunately, Jin Woo appears and successfully saves Detective Gwak from death.
Dong Ho visits Jin Woo’s father in the hospital. He asks the doctor about the current state of Jin Woo’s father and tells the doctor to take good care of him and do the best to save him. Dong Ho comes close to Mr. Jae Hyuk, encouraging him to keep on living until Jin Woo can prove his innocence. On the way living, Dong Ho meets Jin Woo. He tells him that he will make up for the sin he committed in the court tomorrow.
The trial begins with a sudden change: Judge Kang Seok Gyu has been replaced with the reason that the retrial needs to have a more experienced Judge to be in charge of.
The Judge asks the defendant’s lawyer to provide other evidence or witnesses since the video presented in the last trial is not reliable.
At that time, Dong Ho arrives at the court, but when he just gets out of his car, he is surrounded and held by a group of people. Joo Il appears and takes the evidence CD from him, regardless of his loud shouting.
Jin Woo invited Detective Gwak to be the witness in the trial. He admits that Jae Hyuk wasn’t in the prime suspects list, but because his statement lacked of reliability, he was put in the suspect list. When Jin Woo asks if he forced Jae Hyuk to give false testimony, Gwak says he never did that. Jin Woo and In Ah totally get shocked for what he says. It is already a trap preset by Gyu Man.
Prosecutor Choi makes final statement that the truth can’t be changed no matter how the counsel makes his efforts and demands the highest punishments for Seo Jae Hyuk. At that time, Jin Woo receives a call from Manager Yeon informing that….HIS FATHER PASSES AWAY just a while ago. Jin Woo bursts into tears, painfully announces his father’s death in the court and bares what called the truth and justice in this society “People with power come and go as they please. People without power can’t get proper treatment or human support even when they are sick.”
The judge confirms the original verdict – death penalty for Seo Jae Hyuk. Jin Woo runs away from the courtroom and rushes to his father’s side in the hospital; he breaks down calling out his father’s name, while In Ah, Manager Yeon and Lawyer Song share their sympathy in silence.
While Jin Woo’s father’s funeral is held with the attendance of In Ah, Jin Woo and his colleagues, Gyu Man is appointed to be the President of Il Ho Group in a formal meeting.
Dong Ho visits Jae Hyuk’s funeral. Being so furious and out of control, Jin Woo grips Dong Ho’s collar and states Dong Ho is the one who brings his father death. Jin Woo says with tears that if it hadn’t been for Dong Ho, things may not end up like that. Dong Ho says nothing but sorry while Jin Woo keeps crying.
Jin Woo comes back his old home. When taking out some pictures of his father from his box, he finds a letter that his father wrote him in the jail. He tells Jin Woo to eat well and keep only the happy memories in mind instead of the sad ones; even some day he loses his memories, he always has Jin Woo in his heart.
I don’t really know how to express my feelings now since everything is mixed.
In the beginning, when Jin Woo’s father suddenly remembers lots of the old memories, I am very hopeful that things‘re gonna be good: Jin Woo’s father will get well soon and the retrial will promise an optimistic result for Jin Woo. I see them laughing and I feel their extreme happiness. It’s such a long time, at least 4 years, that Jin Woo hasn’t smiled or laughed freely like that.
However, I even get shocked at the ending part of this episode, which is totally opposite to what I think. Jin Woo faces almost all disadvantages in the trial because everything is already framed under the power. I can't believe that his dad passes away so early. It’s like a horrible collapse.
Fate sometimes jests people when it gives them hope and also takes it away from them.
……Just wishing that Jin Woo will overcome this shock!
