REMEMBER- War of the Son Episode 20 RECAP
Gyu Man is arrested and In Ah is questioning him about the fingerprints on the wine opener. However, he refuses to say anything until Moo Suk comes.
As advised by Dong Ho, Soo Boem decided to turn himself in but after he takes one last look at Gyu Man.
Chairman Nam visits Gyu Man and tells him that he would find all possible ways to take him out of prison. There’s still the 3rd trial and they’ll get people - who received money from Il Ho - to help him in the trial.
Jin Woo gives In Ah a list of Gyu Man’s borrowed accounts and a statement of money transfer from Gyu Man’s account in Korea to a company in Philippines. So if they want Gyu Man to receive a rightful verdict, there needs to be one more witness.
Then Jin Woo comes to the prison to meet Chul Joo and asks him to be the witness. Jin Woo persuades Chul Joo by telling him that he may be killed if Gyu Man is out, so it’s important that he should deal Gyu Man first.
Soo Boem visits Gyu Man and tells him that he’s gonna turn himself in. Gyu Man offers Soo Boem one million dollars with the condition that he’ll have to confess before the court that his statements in the last trial were untrue. However, Soo Boem refuses and gives Gyu Man a warning before he leaves. He says that he’s so lonely not because of his enemy; it’s because of his friend – Gyu Man.
Using money to corrupt people, Nam Il Ho and Moo Suk finally can arrange a new Judge for the next trial.
On the date that the new trial takes place, a crowd had been gathered in front of the courthouse, demonstrating against Il Ho Group and Gyu Man. They all want Gyu Man to be executed and throw addled eggs at him when he appears. Gyu Man changes his expression from being very comfortable to getting super crazy.
Before entering the courtroom, Jin Woo meets In Ah. He thanks In Ah for having supporting him and it seems like he put a heavy burden on her. In Ah smiles and says that she just take her responsibility as a prosecutor.
The trial begins with the change of Judge. In Ah presents that she would like to recall Soo Boem to the court but the request is denied by the Judge. During the trial break, Jin Woo has a talk with him. After that, something strange happens. The Judge accepts In Ah’s request for inviting the second witness – Gwak. Gwak confesses that Gyu Man ordered him to frame Jin Woo in the old woman murder case in Jungsan-dong. Then In Ah submits additional evidence for Gyu Man’s other crimes provided by Chul Joo.
The final witness In Ah wants to invite is Jin Woo – Jae Hyuk’s son. Jin Woo accuses Gyu Man of committing various crimes: assault, incitement of murder, rape and murder, creating illegal slush funds, drug use as well as bribing judges, prosecutors and witnesses. All of those accusing statements are supported with evidence.
Finally the Judge declares that Gyu Man receives the death sentence. Gyu Man becomes totally crazy. He gives Moo Suk a strong punch, then jumps up to the table, rushes towards Jin Woo and says that he’ll kill Jin Woo.
Judge Seok Gyu visits Soo Boem. Soo Boem shares that he feels bad for Gyu Man rather than feeling happy when hearing about his death sentence although Gyu Man used to treat him badly. Seok Gyu says that he’s so sad when his two friends – Soo Boem & Gyu Man – are in the jail. Whatever, they’re still friends.
Ha Young comes to Jin Woo’s office and brings along with her gift for Jin Woo and In Ah – it’s a cute monkey couple. She hopes that the monkeys will bring them happiness.
Now Gyu Man experiences his prison time and is treated as a prisoner. He has pains and asks for medicine but receiving the ignorance from the doctor.
One day, Jin Woo pays a visit to the prison and tells Gyu Man this is the last time they meet. Jin Woo says that he and his father lost their peaceful life because of him – Gyu Man. But Gyu Man laughs and tells Jin Woo that’s because of their stupid fate. Jin Woo just smiles, “it’s now your turn to face your fate”.
Dong Ho had waited Jin Woo in his office. He shares Jin Woo’s joys and reminds Jin Woo to take care of his health. Jin Woo tells Dong Ho that if some day he can’t remember him, he hopes Dong Ho pretends as if they didn’t know each other.
Nam Il Ho visits his son. Gyu Man begs his father to let him out and promises that he’ll recover the company. However, he gets a rejection from his father. Nam Il Ho repeats his rule that if people become useless, just throw them away. Gyu Man is no longer his son. For the very rare time, Gyu Man cries.
Moo Suk submits the company report to Nam Il Ho informing that the firm’s stock price has strongly dropped. To calm down Nam Il Ho’s anger, Moo Suk recommends a person who can handle everything.
That Moo Seok already intends to leave Il Ho, and wants to give info on Tak to take down Ilho with the condition that he will be let go. Tak isn’t happy with the idea of letting Moo Seok get away, but Dong Ho tells him that he will catch Moo Seok, after they use his information to destroy Ilho.
The next day, Tak gets a warrant for searching Nam’s office and house as he’s suspected of involving in many illegal activities. The tape that Mr Ha gave Dong Ho is found. Dong Ho arrives and tells Nam that he had promised to put him to jail along with his son.
Gyu Man sits alone in his cell, and thinks of the day his father appointed him to be President. Then Dong Ho’s words come out in his mind, that he would be abandoned by Nam Il Ho if he no longer can be used, even though he’s his son. He decides to suicide, using his uniform to hang himself.
The news about Il Ho’s illegal activities quickly spread out. Jin Woo silently goes to his hidden room with In Ah, looking in his guilty-persons wall, with everyone crossed out.
Tak arrests President Nam and gives him his condolences for Gyu Man, but hopes that he will pay for both of their sins. Later, Dong Ho and Tak hear of the news of Nam’s arrest, and Dong Ho says that Moo Seok has to be caught.
Jin Woo tells In Ah that he’s gonna quit being an attorney, as he already did what he had to do: clearing his father’s name. He won’t regret his decision, as he needs rest too. In Ah remarks that he has really grown up now; and Jin Woo urges her to stop getting involved in everyone’s businesses. From now on, they will have the time to do everything they couldn’t do, including a real date.
The next day, Moo Seok is arrested by In Ah in his new law firm building, as Tak gave her all the necessary evidence.
Jin Woo visits his family’s memorial and tells his dad that he misses him. Dong Ho also arrives at that moment to pay his respects to his own father. He calls Jin Woo but Jin Woo doesn’t seem to recognize him. Then he tells him that he remembers seeing him a few times there.
Jin Woo burns some of his stuff, including a book with memories he wants to forget, and keeps holding the one that contains the memories he wants to cherish.
In Ah arrives at the law firm the next day but can’t find him. There are just his pendant ring and a video left.
Jin Woo tells In Ah that the day she sees this video, he may already lose some parts of his memory. He’s thankful for her help and doesn’t want to be a burden to her anymore. He ends the video with a promise that he will never forget her even if his memories are gone. In Ah calls out his name and cries.
One year passes…
Dong Ho is defending a woman in the court. Seok Gyu meets him outside the courtoom and tells him he fought hard for that woman. Dong Ho says he’s so popular these days, that the woman wanted him to meet her grandaughter!
In Ah arrives, and Seok Gyu asks her if she has any news from Jin Woo. She says she doesn’t, but she’s sure he’s doing alright somewhere.
Later, the three people come to Jin Woo’s office – Byeonduri. and Dong Ho reveals that the payment he received from the woman is potatoes she grew. Director Yeon wonders how they’re gonna pay this month’s rent if Dong Ho keeps receiving such things from clients. At that moment, Dong Ho reminds them of the 50-dollar contract between him and Jin Woo. He, on behalf of Jin Woo, takes over Byeonduri law firm now; and it’s Jin Woo’s wish that Dong Ho can help people who the law should protect.
In Ah goes to the place where she and Jin Woo shared a kiss and sees Jin Woo hanging a card on the wishes-tree. In Ah’s so happy but Jin Woo passes by her as a stranger. In Ah calls him out while Jin Woo wonders if they have met before. In Ah tells him that he reminded her of an acquaintance.
After Jin Woo leaves, she reads his card: “I am sure the pieces of my memories that I’ve lost are with you….I always wish you happiness”. In Ah bursts into tears and immediately runs after Jin Woo.
In Ah calls Jin Woo to stop his steps. She shows him the pendant-ring and asks him whether it reminds him of something. Jin Woo looks at it for a while but couldn’t remember. He starts to leave, and In Ah follows him from behind.
At the same time, Jin Woo’s message is revealed to his law firm colleagues:
“I was an attorney who could remember everything. It was my ability as well as my disability. Because of the memories, I was happy …and sad at times. I’ll never forget the time we had together. Thank you so much for all the great memories.”
This episode is all I expect it to be! Finally, the truth is brought into light. 5 years of persistent fighting is compensated with the death sentence of Gyu Man and a finish of Nam Il Ho. Jin Woo’s father must be smiling in the heaven since his son successfully proved his innocence.
Jin Woo, at the end of this episode, appears with an angel’s smile. I’m happy to see him now relaxed, free, and not bothered by the sad memories.
Gyu Man eventually had to pay a high price. The most painful thing is that he’s abandoned by his father, who always throws away those out of use, with no exception - even his son.
Dong Ho is now a very kind attorney who uses law to help people. It’s totally opposite to what he used to be in the beginning of this drama – a greedy attorney.
Some thoughts about the actors/actresses:
I’m surprised with Yoo Seung Ho's acting. I believe that with his talent and good looking appearance, he would come further as well as get more achievements in his career. He is still young and yet he carried out such serious character to perfection.
Nam Goong Min and Park Sung Woong also a very good actor too. Their characters leave a strong impress even though they’re not main leads: a very rude and cruel Nam Gyu Man; and a talented Park Dong Ho with deep thoughts.
Park Min Young is so pretty and also did a good job. However I hope she’ll try more challenging characters in the future.
And now, it’s time to say goodbyeeee to “Remember”!!
“Remember” will be remembered for sure :)
